there is grace in how you choose  which memories to lose  like the curl of your lips and your finger tips  there's so much that's made  this old wood frame hang new but i got lucky alright  it was never gonna be my life you can't be free until you're ready i got lucky you see it was never going to be me now i see it unfold like a folk song melody there is skill in how you fight  to keep living towards the light you can never change someone but you can change your reaction    and so this day's defeated  and we retreat to night but i got lucky alright  it was never gonna be my life you can't be free until you're ready i got lucky you see it was never going to be me now i see it unfold like a folk song melody

strong will i know it well tunnel vision can take you through hell we got a little off track, we got back in the belly of the flame lie the pieces i lack you were running from the outside running toward the finish line i was  betting on the other side you were giving it all you've got giving up your whole life i was betting on the other side friend i know you good tell your secrets, no, i never would there was a little lost pact still intact it's just a glimmer in your sight   (as we're)  fading to black BRIDGE: dance, arms open wide with the moon's spotlight in your eye and we're movin, around and around

soft spoken spring whispers graciously  thank you for a new beginning a second chance on what we started break  from the broken hearted we're more than the sum of our lives cower at the face of regret i wanna be the ones who make it we're more than the sum of our lives i could let it be i could set us free but it's never that easy  our names carved in the pavement and all the marks we haven't made yet they're more than the sum of our lives all that we anticipated what we already created  it's more than the sum of our lives constance of night tireless sea  comes steady thankfully  a second chance on what we started break  from the broken hearted we're more than the sum of our lives cower at the face of regret i wanna be the ones who make it we're more than the sum of our lives

lets go back where the foothills overlook the emerald sea where the city lights will sparkle as far as your eyes see let's go back let's go back to the sun let's go back where your wildest thoughts are sitting at arms reach where every day is a new beginning let's go back let's go back to the sun we've got just one life so let's leave tonight let's go back where open sign is turned off  til noon where any day is a saturday in june so let's go back let's go back to the sun the new year’s begun so let’s go back to the sun we've got just one life so let's leave tonight  mark it off the list you make  to do before you die i want to show you things that will open up your eyes let's go back where temptation is the night's forewarning  where you wake dusted off  by the early morning breeze let's go back  let's go back to the sun the new year’s begun so let’s go back to the sun

all the stars, the moon, the sky flowered fields and butterflies  well it's not enough for you love of mine all the sunsets heading west all the cities dressed their best well it's not enough for you love of mine once, i had tried to feel something, oh i tried then you opened my eyes and i feel everything of all the breath, the space, and time dream filled days and nights combined well it's not enough for you love of mine fairy tales, sweet surprise  morning songs and lullabies well they're not enough for you love of mine once, i had tried to feel something, oh i tried then you opened my eyes and i feel everything you are everything

about

“This record has the spirit of ‘This is how I feel now, and these are all the elements that brought me here,” Maria explains. “I listened to my previous records and went in the studio wanting to take the best elements of each of them…I feel like I really conquered something on this one.”

Something About Knowing’s spirit of “coming home with confidence” extends from Maria’s personal and artistic peacefulness to the team she picked to surround herself with while making this album. She enlisted producer Mike Mogis, an essential creative foil on her first two records. Her brother Macey Taylor played bass on every song as well as keyboards and piano. And her old high school music pal Brad Armstrong co-wrote, played on, and recorded two tracks in his garage. “There we were back in his garage, only now we both had kids running around, it was really special,” Maria says. Longtime friend and collaborator Andy LeMaster mixed these two songs.

One of the most profound influences on Something About Knowing is the life-changing joy and newfound responsibility of being a first-time parent. “I worked on the album in bursts, when my son was napping,” Maria recalls. “Instead of taking a shower during those times, I’d run downstairs with the baby monitor and write and demo up songs.”

The album beckons with the opening track “Folk Song Melody,” a mesmerizing acoustic-with-celestial-atmospherics track crafted around a wordless singsong passage that’s instantly familiar. “That section says everything without words and the rest of the record fills in the emotions,” she says. And the emotions brimming on Something About Knowing are bliss and contentment.
